Travel to Comox

Air Travel

Regularly scheduled flights from Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton land at the Comox Valley Regional Airport (YQQ) in Comox. Flights to and from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico are also available.

Scheduled float plane flights from Vancouver harbour to Comox harbour are now offered by West Coast Air.

Vehicle Travel

The Comox Valley is situated 220 km (137 miles) north of Victoria and 107 km (66 miles) north of Nanaimo, where the ferry terminals at Departure Bay and Duke Point are located. Drive from Victoria in 3 hours or from Nanaimo in 75 minutes on Highway #19, (the Inland Island Hwy), or take the slower, more scenic Oceanside Route - Highway #19A.

From Port Hardy, at the northern tip of Vancouver Island, travel time by car via Hwy 19A is around 3 and a half hours.

Ferry Travel

BC Ferries provides regular ferry connections between Vancouver Island and the BC Mainland. Washington State Ferries also operate several routes from Washington State to Vancouver Island. Ferry travel provides an opportunity to stretch your legs, have a meal, and enjoy the ocean breezes. You may even spot porpoises or a pod of Orcas as you make the crossing to Vancouver Island. Crossing time from the BC Mainland varies from 75 to 105 minutes depending on the route.

Train Travel

The VIA Rail Malahat Train (formerly called the E&N Dayliner) makes daily trips between Victoria and Courtenay. This two car train offers a view of rural communities and Vancouver Island forests never seen by road travelers. For schedule information and bookings contact VIA Rail at 1-888-VIA-RAIL.

Bus Travel

Regular bus connections allow travel between the more populated areas of Vancouver Island as well as connecting to the Mainland. For passenger service schedules contact Laidlaw Coachlines at 1-800-318-0818. 

Throughout the Comox Valley local bus service and 24 hour taxi services are available..

Boat Travel

Private boat travelers can enjoy a full range of facilities including moorage, showers, restaurants and shops within walking distance from the Comox Marina. Contact the Comox Valley Harbour Authority for more information.
